Biodegradable bag manufacturing activity offers a sustainable and eco-friendly packaging solution with strong market potential. The unit requires essential machinery such as a biodegradable film extruder, bag cutting and sealing machine, and optionally a printing machine, with an estimated cost ranging between ₹15–₹35 lakhs depending on automation and scale. These machines have a production capacity of approximately 50 to 100 bags per minute, depending on size and thickness. The primary raw materials used are corn starch or cassava starch, PLA (Polylactic Acid), PBAT and fillers like glycerol and calcium carbonate. A covered area of 1,000–2000 sq. ft. and additional space for storage would work for the activity. The biodegradable bags include grocery packaging, retail carry bags, garbage liners, food packaging and bags for fruits and agricultural products. The products have access to supermarkets, retail chains, e-commerce companies, FMCG brands, municipalities, and even exported to eco-conscious international markets. This project aligns with environmental compliance and growing demand for sustainable packaging alternatives.
