Essential Oil Manufacturing

The Essential Oil Manufacturing Project

The Essential Oil Manufacturing Project focuses on producing high-quality oils such as lemongrass, eucalyptus, citronella, and peppermint, catering to the growing needs of the wellness, cosmetics, and food industries. With the state’s agro-climatic advantage and availability of aromatic crops in districts like Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram and West Medinipur, the unit will be ideally located in a rural or semi-rural area near raw material sources requiring minimum 2,000-3000 sft of area with access to water, electricity, and transport facilities. The production process will primarily involve steam distillation, supported by equipment such as distillation vessels, boilers, condensers, separators, and packaging units. Fresh aromatic herbs will be the main raw materials, and the plant may initially operate with a capacity of 25–100 liters per day. The tentative machinery cost for a small-scale setup starts from ₹15–20 lakhs and above depending on size, capacity and features. The business has strong potential in both domestic and export markets and its products can be sold through aggregators, corporate buyers, retail outlets, and e-commerce platforms Essential oils have strong market potential both domestically and internationally. They can be sold through retail outlets such as health stores, organic shops, cosmetic stores, and pharmacies, as well as to beauty salons and spas for aromatherapy and massage applications. E-commerce platforms provide direct-to-consumer sales opportunities, while aggregators and distributors can handle bulk supplies. On the export side, essential oils are in demand by international health and wellness brands, cosmetic and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Additionally, business and industrial buyers, including essential oil blenders, cosmetic manufacturers, and aromatherapy centers, represent significant sales channels, making the business versatile and scalable.
