Tree felling permission is an official approval required before cutting or removing trees from land, even if the area is privately owned or categorized as non-forest. This permission ensures that tree cutting is regulated, and compensatory plantation or environmental restoration is carried out as per the norms.

Details of trees to be felled/disposed off, Purpose of felling, Plantation plan, Particulars of previous felling of trees, conversion certificate, NOC from Panchayat/Municipality/Corporation, Documents of ownership for land, Self-Certification of low risk and Medium risk categories of trees. The permission is generally valid for a specific period. Felling must be completed within this period, and compensatory plantation may be verified by the Forest Department.
Unauthorized tree felling can result in fines, prosecution under the State Tree Protection Act, and suspension of development approvals by local authorities.
