The Biodegradable Plates Manufacturing Project aims to produce eco-friendly disposable tableware using bagasse, a sugarcane by-product, as a sustainable alternative to plastic and pharmocol. The project will focus on items such as plates, saucers, bowls, and trays, with bagasse sourced from nearby sugar mill at Plassey of Nadia and other local suppliers. The unit would require from minimum land of 1000 sft and above with access to water, electricity, and transport. A small-set up may produce around 3,000 plates and above per day, with scalability based on market demand. The total machinery cost starts from ₹10–25 lakhs based on size, capacity, and automation features. There is a strong and growing market for biodegradable tableware across both urban and rural areas, with sales channels including local markets, bulk buyers, eco-friendly stores, and online platforms.
