Glass Recycling
The Indian recycling market, which encompasses a variety of products, is estimated to be growing at a rate of 10 to 15% annually. The glass recycling market is estimated to grow from US$4.27 billion in 2024 to US$7.21 billion by 2034. The project involves processing waste glass into cullet or crushed glass for industrial use, such as new bottles or construction aggregates. The setup requires for a small glass recycling plant (including jaw crusher, hammer mill, magnetic sorter, and packing machine) costing approximately ₹8 lakhs and above with a capacity of producing 200-300 kg/hr of culets. The unit needs 1,000 to 2000 sq ft of space. The manufacturing process entails collecting and sorting waste glass, crushing, milling, de-contaminating (removing metals/ceramics), and packing the cullet for sale. Raw materials, primarily waste glass, are locally sourced, with minor additives like coloring agents. A significant portion of recycled glass, is used to create new glass bottles, jars, and other containers. Recycled glass serves bottle manufacturers, construction firms (e.g., for fillers or tiles), and other industries. The glass market in India stands at a higher juncture, influenced by shifting consumer preferences, industry dynamics, and global market trends.
