Ice Plant produces ice blocks commonly used in fisheries and transportation. The plant requires basic raw materials like clean water, salt for brine and minor consumables, all of which are easily available locally. The key machinery includes an insulated brine tank with agitators, refrigeration package with compressor and condenser, ice cans of different capacities, cooling tower, circulation pumps, can lifting gantry. The tentative machinery cost for a small ice plant of 1 to 3 ton capacity starting from ₹6-15 lakh depending on type of machinery selected, maker, size and automation features. The area requirement is about 1,000–3,000 sq. ft. The production process involves filling cans with treated water, immersing them in chilled brine for freezing, decanning blocks and dispatching the finished ice.
