Non-leather shoes are cheaper, easier to produce, and widely available compared to leather. They offer greater design flexibility, are low-maintenance, and water-resistant. Additionally, they are ethical and vegan-friendly, meeting growing consumer demand. Non-Leather Shoes include casual shoes, school shoes, sandals, and sports-style footwear using synthetic materials such as PU leather, textiles, and EVA/rubber soles. A unit can be planned with a capacity ranging from 100 to 1,500 pairs per day, depending on scale. Raw materials like PU rolls, coated fabrics, linings, insoles, soles (rubber, EVA, PU (Polyurethane) /TAR (Thermo Plastic Rubber), mesh, adhesives, laces, eyelets, and packaging materials are readily available from Kolkata and nearby suppliers. The main machinery required includes cutting/clicking machines, skiving machines, industrial stitching machines, lasting machines (attaching the shoe upper onto the base of the shoe), sole presses or vulcanizing presses, grinding/buffing machines, insole cutters, hydraulic/cold presses, and packaging tools, with optional investment in outsole injection machines for medium-scale units. For a small scale unit, the machinery cost vary between ₹5–20 lakh depending on size, automation features and capacity. A micro unit requires 700–1,200 sq ft, The end products cater to everyday wear, schools, formal and casual segments, institutional contracts, and retail or e-commerce platforms, with potential for export market, Sales channels include local footwear wholesalers, retailers, school uniform suppliers, departmental stores, and online marketplaces.
