Cold pressed mustard oil
Cold pressed mustard oil is extracted using a mechanical process that involves pressing mustard seeds at low temperatures (below 40°C), preserving its natural nutrients, flavor, and aroma without the use of external heat or chemicals. The oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E, making it a healthier alternative for cooking, skincare, and Ayurvedic applications. It has a mild pungent aroma and a natural yellowish hue. The process typically involves a seed cleaner, cold press oil expeller (screw press or wooden churner type). Afterwards, the oil is filtered and packaged in glass bottles to preserve its nutrients, aroma, and freshness. Since minimum heat is involved and it tends to retain its nutritional value, therefore, cold-pressed oils eliminate solvent, refining, bleaching, and deodorising processes. Normal Mustard oil is produced using chemicals at a higher temperature with minimum nutrients, though it is cheaper to produce. While cold pressed mustard oil has strong nutty flavour, packed with nutrients, though it is costlier but pure. It requires on an average of 800 to 2000 sft for a small scale unit. The estimated machinery cost starts from ₹10-15 lakhs and above, depending on scale, capacity, size and automation. With increasing demand in health-conscious urban markets, organic stores, and e-commerce platforms, cold pressed mustard oil offers a strong business opportunity with potential for premium branding and export.
(The mustard oil produced by Wood pressed method is also a good option in the next phase. Although it is more expensive, it offers higher nutritional value and a rich natural aroma).
